(This is edition No. 1 free edition of this Blog)
As my audience will no doubt know, or have intuited, by now, I have expressed an intention to turn this into something greater than just a blog to keep a record of my literary and intellectual work. It’s been a slow realisation for me what I want to do with this project. In the beginning, I wanted one thing: to gather audience. My vision seemed to not consider a life beyond the audience, but as I grow older, I begin to see further than the numbers.
So Let’s start with the term Probably Nothing itself, what does it mean? In simple words, this term is used in an ironic way. It means “probably something important”.
I learned this being in crypto and NFT communities. Whenever a significant event happens in web3, we say “probably nothing” to show how such a big thing is mundane to us.
Simply put, Probably Nothing is a blog that aims to compile and curate my work as a writer.
What you can expect from Probably Nothing-
I’ve been told that my writing style is engaging and thought-provoking, and I am guessing, that is why I have built a loyal following on social media platforms. I’m known for my brevity and one-liners mostly, but this isn’t Twitter or Instagram.
The goal, then, is to not simply contaminate this project with garbage disguised as “shit-posting”, or abandon this publication, as I often do because of my stochastic high-entropic state of mind, but rather to turn this into something prestigious in its own right.
What I want for Probably Nothing is this: a steady publication of nuanced, surgically written, intellectually appealing articles on various topics.
In the future, I will likely have a better website, a staff of writers, and different publications for each category.
But for now, let me introduce to you the categories and editorials that Probably Nothing will host.
Business & Finance
Science & Technology
Cryptocurrency & Blockchains
Male-female Power Dynamics
Psychology and Human-nature
Cognitive Science & Philosophy
Essays, Articles, Cultural criticism
You can expect one article every Sunday, on average.
Why Does Probably Nothing Exist?
There are many reasons but only four of them stand out.
To Help You
Over the years, hundreds (if not thousands) of people have sent me messages through the Internet telling me how my writing saved them from committing suicide, or depression, or an unexpected and sudden life-change but I never took it seriously
I always brushed it off, “eh it was you who saved yourself” I reasoned.
I did not take it seriously not because I do not think their words have any value, but because I had to prepare myself for the hatred too. It isn’t possible to take the compliments seriously and ignore the trolls, so I tried to numb myself to the Internet altogether.
I decided to not let the haters drag me down, or the admirers keep me on cloud nine. I didn’t want to let anything get to my head, neither hate nor love. So I chose to discard any and all external opinions about me, totally. And this is why I never took this online world seriously. I still don’t, to a large extent.
I never understood why people found my words so moving. Maybe they were just naive and wanted some encouragement? Or maybe my ego wants to feel good about itself by showing humility? I really don’t know. But what I do know is that it’s helping them. If my words are healing people, and helping them move forward in life, that’s a good thing. And so this blog exists partially because of you, for you.
Many of you have been suicidal about life, many of you have relationship issues, and many of you want to move forward. Whilst I am on the same journey as you and am no professional therapist or clinical psychologist, the least I can do is share my experiences and the wisdom I extract from them and hope that they help you.
To Keep A Record Of My Literary And Intellectual Work
I’ve been writing on the Internet for almost a decade now. I started writing fan-fiction on WattPad in 2014, started my blog in 2018, then on social media in 2020, and now here in 2023. I have been writing all over the place and because of it, I haven’t really sat down and fixated on any one platform to focus on the distribution alone. Many pieces have gotten tarnished away over time, many pieces lost, many hidden deep within the web I cannot access anymore.
I also have this tendency of deleting articles or posts at a whim or a sudden mood change, I do not want to label it mood swings because of the negative feminine connotation attached to it but it has been nothing but the same. I often post insightful pieces on the internet only to delete it a day later, and because of it, my audience is left with the option to screenshot the posts and keep it somewhere safe.
And so this blog aims to curate, compile and keep a record of all my literary and intellectual work. Whilst there will still be bits and pieces here and there on the Internet, this will be the place where only the most intentional and sincere pieces reside.
To Be Able To Talk To You Freely Without Having To Obey A Platform
Ah, the good old free-speech issue. I’ve been on many platforms and I’ve been de-platformed from many as well. With the growing policies of the new-age social media platforms, we are compelled to behave in a certain manner. This might be useful to keep the masses civil but recently it has all been going downhill.
There are many problems with social media, but to list some:
Censorship
Quantity Over Quality
Chasing The Algorithm
Inability To Monetise Content
Inability To Own Your Audience
(As I am writing this, Twitter has restricted all links to Substack, suspended the official Substack account, and restricted interacting to any tweet that contains the word ‘Substack’.)
I do not stand for this, and for that reason I think I will be better able to serve my audience through emails (since it functions on SMTP). Whether or not you believe The Matrix is real, it’s important that I am able to reach out to my audience in case of any potential suspension in future.
Certain things can only be said privately, else they will ban you.
To Be Able To Monetise Access To My Work In Future
All my life I have tried to understand complex ideas and articulate them. Not for others, but for myself.
Everything I witness or do, I try to extract some form of wisdom out of it. My brain aches if I see something and I do not have an explanation for it, and so I jump into the rabbit hole of anything that fascinates me.
This blog will contain years of my work, and to be able to access it and keep this project sustainable, I will persuade you to become a paid subscriber in future and I will succeed.
I know I will succeed because I know what I am talking about. I know the depth of my articulation, and in time, you will see this too.
Closing Remarks
Thank you for taking the time to read this far. I will be pushing out weekly or bi-monthly issues starting today. One request, do let me know who you are, and what you do. I will reply and get to know you more.
There’s a universe where you follow me.
And there’s a universe where you do not follow me.
The choice is yours.
We're 800 today. We won't be 800 tomorrow.
Gradually. Then suddenly.
